The Legacy of Ichilampady

St. George Front

St. George Orthodox Syrian Church, Ichilampady, is located in Ichilampady Village, approximately 8 KM from Nellyady and 10 KM from Kadaba. This church is revered and accepted by people throughout the Dakshina Kannada District of Karnataka. Devotees visit from morning until evening, seeking the intercessory power of St. George, which has helped many find relief from their worries.

People come here regardless of caste or religion, making the church a vital spiritual power source for many in their times of need. The parish is currently supported by 55 families who serve as the pillars of this community.

Humble Beginnings (1953)

Church Grounds

The church was started in 1953 through the active initiation of families who hailed from Kerala for agriculture. Under the leadership of Late Rev. Fr. Thomas Vadakkedath, the first Holy Qurbana was celebrated in a simple bamboo shed. Later, Late Rev. Fr. Zachariah, who arrived with Late Lamented H.G. Pathrose Mar Osthathiose, took charge.

Late Rev. Fr. A. Jacob also served during a difficult period, managing multiple nearby churches and overseeing the construction of a small church building. Between these eras, several priests provided valuable service to the growing community.

Growth and Consecration

Golden Dwaja

Late Rev. Fr. V. Mathews (Joy Achen) served for 11 years, bringing significant developments including the old cross tower and initial electrification. Subsequently, Rev. V. Mathews Cor-Episcopa (Manikulam Achen) served as Vicar for 18 years. During his tenure, the church was reconstructed and consecrated on February 15th & 16th, 2002, by Late Lamented H.H. Baselios Marthoma Mathews II, along with other prominent church leaders.

The Georgian Pilgrim Centre

Main Shrine

Under the leadership of Rev. Fr. V. C. Jose, the parish was officially declared a "Georgian Pilgrim Centre" by H.G. Yakob Mar Irenios. Following him, the parish was served by Rev. Fr. Joseph Malayil and Rev. Fr. Eldho M. Paul. Today, under the guidance of our current Vicar, Fr. Kuriakose Thomas Pallichira (Fr. Sunil), developments continue through the sincerity of the priests and the devotion of the parish members.
